Cycling with the Recyclers at Langebaan

Arrival in Posberg Park On the way to our cycling adventure in Langebaan in September, Jon and I chose to drive through the West Coast National Park https://www.sanparks.org/parks/west_coast/ into the Posberg Park where no cyclists are allowed. There were more flowers and animals than I have ever seen in this park. There was no wind. The waves were not big as they have been on previous visits. Lunch...

Pedal Power Association invited cyclists to meet at 6.45 am this morning at the spot where a commuter cyclist was killed last week.  A White ghost cycle was placed on a polel on the pavement. 2012 Argus Cycle Tour cycled through St James and Kalk Bay

Kalk Bay and St James residents cheer the cyclists on Boyes Drive while enjoying breakfast parties on the roadside.             41000 + cyclists registered for the race last October.  31000+ started the race.  29000 + finished. It was a wonderful day in Cape Town.  Too much sun and little wind.  No one complains about closed roads on this day!  Early morning I walked down to Olympia Bakery...

Oak Valley Mountain Bike Ride

One of the most spectacular rides I've done was the day the Foresters' cycle group met at 8 am to cycle the Oak Valley track. This beautiful ride on the Oak Valley Estate, a wine farm near Elgin, is only 75 minutes' drive from Kalk Bay. There are 3 grades of track and most of us did the middle one which was 24 kms through wonderful oak trees, then open fields and vineyards. We started on a single,...

Silvermine dam, Tokai forest is 20 minutes drive from Kalk Bay

Silvermine dam and Tokai forest is 20 minutes drive from Kalk Bay and St James. We drove up the mountain and parked a car. Then we found the top contour jeep track and cycled slowly down the mountain. At the beginning we had wonderful views over the Constantia wine farms to False Bay.      We cycled through the forest to the Porter school and stopped at the Impala Jet.  Then cycled on through the...

New cycle path under construction in Tokai Forest

At about 5 pm on Saturday family and friends met to cycle the new path. It is 15 minutes drive from Kalk Bay towards Cape Town.  The path is suitable for all ages.  Cyclists ages were from 7 years to 70 years! Non cyclists found a lovely secluded spot in the forest near the path for our picnic. While we chatted the children had such fun cycling  on the...

Constantia Berg

Mountain bike ride in Constantia

One of my favourite activities close to Kalk Bay is my weekly mountain bike ride with the Tuesday Tribe in the Constantia valley, between 5 wine farms, oak trees and the Tokai forest. There are green belts with trails between the beautiful houses. My daughter from London enjoys the rides too. The trees are being removed to allow the indigenous fynbos to grow. There are hundreds of houses in this...

Cycling in the Spring flowers

We enjoyed a drive to Langebaan on the West Coast road, seeing all the spring flowers, for an hour and a half. We booked into Seagulls B&B http://www.gocco.co.za/seagulls.htm where we had 2 bedrooms and a yard for Pookie, Patty and Trixie. Then we left the dogs there and cycled through the flowers to the entrance of the West Coast National Park and back along the edge of the huge Langebaan...
