Clovelly Country Club
On Friday evening my partner and I enjoyed a delicious dinner with his cousins at the Clovelly Country Club.
We sat at a table on the Deck, the outdoor terrace of the Clovelly Country Club, to see the sunset on the Atlantic Ocean. It was cold so the waiter provided a tall gas heater to keep us warm. It was lovely to sit there all evening. The view over the Fish Hoek beach and valley was enchanting as the lights came on. The golf course looked beautiful in twilight with the green grass fading into the gentle darkness of the surrounding trees.
One of two Golf Clubs in the area, Clovelly Golf Club is known to golfers as an attractive and accessible course, with reasonable 9-hole and 18-hole green fees.
I have enjoyed many games there with a regular set of golfing buddies, as well as friends and family. It’s a favourite amongst the many sporting options available in or near Kalk Bay — see Arts and Adventure for more.
More than Golf: Meals and Events
Members of the Club have also long enjoyed the well-prepared meals in the hidden gems of the Dining Room or the Bar Area. Fewer people know that non-members are welcome in the restaurant, and do not have to be accompanied by a member. The menu is limited, but always well-chosen. On Friday, we enjoyed a generous serving of Norwegian salmon with delicious vegetables for the price of R95.00!!!
The Golf Club provides not only dinner, but lunch and breakfast as well. Whether for nourishment before a game, refreshment after, or just a wonderful breakfast in a lovely setting before a day at the beach, Clovelly Golf Club has long been a desirable everyday venue for local residents.
Bookings are essential for their Sunday 3-course carvery which is very good at R130 per person (children under 12 years – half price). They also have a gorgeous ballroom which has seen many weddings and other celebrations over the years. There is ample parking so bigger events have no difficulty accommodating larger parties.
And there’s more! The manager told us about the new bistro upstairs from the clubhouse pub which has recently opened. We plan to go there soon. With Clovelly Country Club only five minutes’ drive from Kalk Bay, one can spend most of the evening laughing instead of driving!
