Oak Valley Mountain Bike Ride

One of the most spectacular rides I’ve done was the day the Foresters’ cycle group met at 8 am to cycle the Oak Valley track.
This beautiful ride on the Oak Valley Estate, a wine farm near Elgin, is only 75 minutes’ drive from Kalk Bay.
There are 3 grades of track and most of us did the middle one which was 24 kms through wonderful oak trees, then open fields and vineyards.
We started on a single, smooth track through an oak tree wood before emerging onto the grassy farmland slopes.
Here we started to get to grips with the pine pole “bridges” over the wire fences.
The scenery was gorgeous. There were many hills which were too steep for me to cycle but walking was easy and lovely.
The weather was mostly sunny but with a pleasant breeze to keep us comfortable on the bikes.
We finished under the oaks with a bring-and-share picnic.
About 30 of us were cycling and others enjoyed the walks under the trees.
We all had lots of fun and laughed a lot.

I liked seeing cyclists riding in the countryside.
