Pre-1919 cars in St James and Kalk Bay

Pre-1919 cars in St James and Kalk Bay

On Sunday morning, many residents of St James and Kalk Bay stood on Main road to cheer these pre-1919 cars which were travelling to Cape Point.   Some were built before the steering wheel was invented. These old cars are difficult to drive. Most drivers will not attempt to drive a car with a stick instead of a steering wheel!

When this Ford was manufactured, Henry Ford was aiming to make a car that every one of his staff could purchase with 3 months’ wages!!!!
